Mayer Bistro, Budapest
Completed
2005

A tiny nook on the corner of Október 6. utca and Szabadság tér, Mayer Bistro became a busy downtown eatery whose primary focus will primarily be breakfast and lunch fare. Backdropped by an urban buzz, the place also has a good chance of ripening into an evening fav for those merely looking to daydream over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. Nestled behind two gigantic glass windows, the customer area is split by the mezzanine staircase into a bistro-table section and a service counter area. The kitchen, staff-only premises, and secondary customer areas are housed hidden ‘behind the wall’ outside the main eating joint. Implementation was carried out based on a slightly simplified, rudimentary version of the original concept plan, and most details were left out, which made the atmosphere a little good. The final design should have been more condensed and refined, yet the result is nothing to avoid. The restaurant closed in 2018.
