Lehel square market hall, Budapest
Completed
2005

The monumental building of the Lehel square market hall is the realization of „radical eclecticism” (copyright by László Rajk) and looks like „an exploded firecracker- and flagpole warehouse” (copyright by www.építészfórum.hu). I participated in this project besides architect László Rajk, who died in 2019, from concept plan to completion. The building has been controversial from the beginning, and its initial charms have worn off as decades passed. That said, having been part of the process next to László Rajk is a memory I will always cherish, and one must not overlook the fact that the Lehel is probably the best farmers’ market Budapest has today.
